I am more then pleased with my new Dremel 8000. I have had it for several weeks and it is still working off the 1st charge. I use it to Dremel my 5 dogs nails. Out of all of my tools this one is used practically everyday. The old Dremel battery-powered units cannot hold a candle to this Li-Ion unit, it actually has some power and it lasts - I would not consider being without one. I have used to clean off the jagged edge of an aluminum propeller without a recharge and have actually used it to cut off the handcuffs on a detainee without any problems (ensure you wrap the wrist with a wet towel, the metal of course gets hot). I recommend you obtain a second battery, I use it often and when it's depleted it's now, not gradually like the old Ni-Cad powered units. With the Li-Ion it charges up in less than 15 minutes. I have one and purchased one for my father - he loves it.

This is truly a great tool when used for what it is good for. I like this better than the corded because there isn't a cord that gets in the way or causes you to not be very accurate. The case is disappointing but not a deal breaker. It kind of looks like it was made as 1 size fits all for multiple Dremel products but everything does fit securely. Then battery seems to last a long time, its light weight, and it has plenty of power just like the corded version.

We purchased this Dremel kit to primarily maintain our dogs nails.

The extension cable is great since it reduces vibration and noise to allow our pooch to relax more while we are sanding down his nails.

There is to much in the kit to describe (over 50 accessories) but eventually we will use them all.

As usual delivery was on time and its just such a pleasure buying from amazon

They always seem to beat pricing and with PRIME membership, I never have to worry about those add-on fees that you get for shipping a small item from other online retail shops.

The Dremel is a fine tool which you won't be dissapointed in.

I had an old model 395 which went bad after 25 years and thousands of hours of use and abuse. I needed a new one so I purchased the 400xpr model which only last 6 months and burned up. I was upset because I hadn't saved the receipt. I sent the tool back with a note explaining the problem and within 10 days I had a new 4000 which is working great for me. They realized the 400 had a problem which is why it has been discontinued. 5 year warantee!!!! Great customer service!

I actually love this tool until last month. I used it lightly on various tasks from cutting, grinding, polishing ( very handy for Harley owners BTW ) and even for drilling.

This has been a really handy tool to have being a cordless model until it just decided to QUIT WORKING? turned off while doing some work and it is through, it will not work at all? It had about 3/4 charge and I believe the battery has just come apart inside because it will not charge now either - really weird as it was not dropped or anything I just turned it off and now it is a really expensive paper weight?

I love Dremel products but I think there is a reason this particular model was not out long.

Over a three week period, I went through 7 "hobbiest" rotary tools (Dremels).I work home construction, and these hobbiest tools simply do not hold up.

A co-worker gave me a B&D rotary tool he had picked up at a garage sale for $2, amazingly it performed beautifully! I continued to use it for months with

full confidenced until I inadvertently left it at a job site. This item is not sold at the big box stores and I could not find it on line, until I checked Amazon.

So far, so good. The title is a bit deceptive for this particular item as the storage "case" is really a drawstring pouch which offers really no protection to the tool or accessories. I picked up a 105 piece accessory kit to go with it since this one only comes with the sanding drum and 4 sanding bands. Since the addition of the accessory kit I have been able to etch my name into my tools and on my bike and cut down and sanded a small shelf for my bathroom. The adjustable speed is very handy and the unit is very light and manageable. I can see this tool getting A LOT of use in the future!

This tool works great, when you can actually get it to let go of the bit if you need to swap it out. It says they are easy to get out, well yes, provided you use a pair of pliers... I have a bit stuck in the tool at the moment, been trying to get it out for oh...45 mins. Probably going to have to dismantle the whole tool....

Drive shaft attachment nut threads were totally screwed up. Managed to ruin a brand new multitool before I realized it. Could have got an "off brand" for $10 less but NO, I had to get the "high quality" Dremel name. Also thanks to Dremel for having the strangest possible thread on that drive shaft, good luck finding a die. Dremel name is total junk anymore. Look around, there's a lot better quality elsewhere (couldn't be worse).

"HORRIBLE assembly instructions..." 2010-09-28

I've owned Dremel products for years, and like them. I bought this expecting it to work with my "older" Dremel from the late 1990s...

First of all, out of the box...NO VISUAL STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS whatsoever. I've written technical documentation in the past, and have assembled many things including a full-sized Craftsman table saw. I was shocked at how horrible and incomplete the instructions were for this product. It has a not-so-helpful diagram, and a few short instructions in the "Assembly" area of the manual. As far as I'm concerned, I could've been reading the Spanish instructions and had an easier time.

There is a telescoping tube that has rubber caps on each end. Not understanding what they are for, I removed them and took the two tubes apart (they were never mentioned in the assembly). Then I struggled to figure out how to put it all together. It ends up you're supposed to leave the two tubes nested, and extend one of them. Not clear from the instructions! (perhaps that was covered in the Spanish section!)

There is a locking mechanism on the back of the unit that holds the Dremel, but I don't think it ever mentions attaching it BEFORE sliding the drill press unit down the shaft...so after I finally got everything assembled, I had to disassemble it to put this piece back in.

Also, the drill press unit rotates and locks "vertical." Mine's not perfectly vertical...probably off 1-2 degrees. I can't figure out how to get it to be straight.

I could go on, but it would be more of the same. After struggling with it and taking about an hour to assemble it, I learned that my older 1998 Dremel doesn't even fit in the collar. So I'm going to have to go buy another Dremel in order to use the drill press.

I am really disappointed in Dremel!! This is NOT up to Dremel standards. Dremel, if you're listening, I will write your assembly instructions for you if you send me a new Dremel that works with this!

I bought this workstation to use as a drill press for my crafts business. I consider myself relatively handy and intelligent and the instructions could not have been more worthless. Bad graphics, poor wording. I was able to "successfully" assemble it only after lucking out at the local hardware superstore where they had a Dremel demo last weekend. The nice guy running the demo took one out of the box for me and helped me set it up. He agreed the instructions were, uh, lacking. Also recommended that I use plumbers' tape to fix the wobbliness of the tube assembly. Overall this piece is useful but it's also a big disappointment. C'mon Dremel, you can do way better.

p.s. The packaging and such may not list it, but this *does* accommodate the Dremel 4000 Series.

"Misleading and Poor Quality" 2010-09-18

This product says that it will fit a Dremel 395. My problem is that the Dremel I am in possession of is a model 395 circa 1984. The Dremel I have has a different body style than the current 395's and will not fit the drill press. I can understand this mistake but it would have saved me time and money spent to know this detail. As for the press itself it is definitely of budget construction. The assembly is pretty simple but that is after you interpret the poorly written and skimpy instructions. All-in-all you get something that should be priced around $40.00 and in today's world that is not saying much. The old Dremel in my possession is still going strong after 26 years; I don't think this drill press will have much worth after the same amount of time except as scrap metal and plastic.

This is a good buy if you don't use the EZ-Lock system and you've lost or damaged a lot of your basic tools. If you do a lot of a particular task, like polishing or metal cut off, you're better off buying just the pieces you need.

I leave a Dremel at a shared cottage and last time I opened the case nothing was there but the Dremel and one arbor, so this is what I bought to re-establish the kit. Happy, and I'm locking it up.

The hi speed rotary tool is comfortable to handle.

The variable speed motor is easily adjustable with a slider switch.

The tool kit included is a good selection of pieces.

The tool I got had a defect right out of the box.

I discovered that the tool has a wobble in the shaft. with a 2 inch

long tool inserted in the chuck it is quite noticeable. I returned to the store and checked out 2 more [new in the box] and they all had this defect. At 35000 rpm top speed this could be hazardous to use. Be aware that this defect may be found in other units.

I have an older tool that I bought about 40 years ago. The built in speed control is not infinite but has a good selection of speeds. There is space in the included carrying case for other attachments.

Bought this to cut a hole in plastic and used the appropriate Dremel cutter. Within the 1st minute, it stopped running. I had to squeeze the two covers for the bushings to get it to work. I can't tighten the covers any more. I waited too long to return it to Amazon so now I'm going to return it to Dremel for warranty repair. Poor quality control in making this thing.

Ordered this because it was easily the best price around. The 300 series fits in your hand better than the 4000 or the XPR versions I have played with. You lose the indipendant power button and speed controls with this model (vs. the 4000), but for the price, and what I will likely use it for, that is an easy trade. The circle cutter is fantastic for creating circles in tile (which is why I bought one, after borrowing a friends XPR). I could not find this kit in HD or Lowe's

This is not a heavy duty device, but it is extremely useful and should easily last years the way I use it and for its price, I'll buy another when/if I wear it out. There are a significant number of cutoff and cut-into things that I do and this right angle head maks those so much more easily done, and safely done (when wearing a face shield). Just wish I had been looking at what dremel has been doing rather then waiting for my 30 year old dremel to fail before I looked at new accessories. If you are a hobiest and/or into your home repair - get it, you will find uses for it that will undo those aukward angles you do now.

cabinet and this worked out well. Keep in mind that this

is not (nor is it meant to be) a heavy-duty power tool.

It seems to be reasonably well made and the price is

"RUNOUT in abundance" 2010-05-22

Well, it's cheap. for the money I was impressed with the apparent fit & finish, clean tight plastic moldings, good fit up etc. I am probably atypical in that I wanted it to use 90% for metal work. I work in aerospace & defense QA and when I put in a foredom carbide bur I was SHOCKED at the amount of runout (wobbling bit) for a tool that runs such high RPM ideally runout should be under .002" and at this size tool that shouldn't be too hard to achieve. Well I put a test indicator on the carbide shank .250 from collet face, it EXCEEDED THE INDICATOR'S .030" TRAVEL. I disassmbled the collet cleaned and tried again, same. I tried to manually guide the loose collet as I tightened it and got to about .014" runout. and when I used it for about 2 minutes on A36 weld joint the bur lead angle pulled it out the front of the collet! thightened the collet like mad and it held the bit till job completion but the huge runout was. back

I will check the threads and see if any of the accessory aftermarket collets sold for Dremel will fit, if so I will try one of those as the spindle and it's socket seem on center, the collet is terribly sloppy and the nut isn't much better.

I ordered this item from Amazon about a month ago, and was anticipating the arrival of this new toy. I was a bit skeptical due to the low price, and I know why now. I waited almost a month for this to get delivered even though it was said to be in stock. Apart from the delayed delivery situation this thing has about 1/3 the power of the Dremel, Craftsman models that are similar. I tried to use the cutting wheel to remove some glued on pressed wood and this thing just came to a standstill. I borrowed a friends Craftsman model and it zipped right through that pressed wood. I attempted to use some other attachments in hopes this would be good for something. It might be good for engraving or something light duty, but you serious wood workers will not be happy with this item.

I would not reccomend this product to anyone. I gave it one star just because I had to give it sonme star rating.

Have you ever heard the saying "you get what you pay for"? It is true with these type tools. Pay the extra 20-40 dollars and get something that will work good. I went out and bought the dremel 4000 for $79.99 and it works great.

This item will go into a garage sale or Ebay.

Thats my two cents, and I hope it helps someone else from making the mistake I did.

I bought this on the advice of the groomer who cut her nails. My amazing and sweet Aussie and I adopted each other 12 years ago. For 3 years before that -Whoever- had her should be thrown in jail. Her nails were Never cut, quicks longer than you could ever imagine, but I won't get into that now! I had been taking her to groomers to have her nails professionally cut for Years. I just didn't trust myself to successfully do this. Well, she would still bleed, even with the pros. And I would get yelled at by the groomers for her nails being like that. Once I mentioned she came from a shelter...So I did tons of research and found this item. Fantastic! After all my baby went through and all that she was afraid of even years later, she did not mind the noise at all. What a gal! One thing I read that is good advice- somehow (pantyhose, etc) cover the paw, stick nails thru, so the fur does not get in the way. When it does get caught- watch out! I've been using it for I think about a year now at least 2x a month and just now I'm going to buy replacement pads. Highly recommend! Love the fact it is cordless, I'll never use a corded one again.

This tool was great at first. Unfortunately, the battery gradually stops holding a charge, and becomes too weak to be used for even a few minutes. The battery on my unit also began leaking and it corroded the connections in the motor section just after the warranty expired. I would recommend buying a more powerful and better made dremel, even if you intend to use it for dog nail trimming, with the hope that it will last longer.

While it still worked, I found it very useful, and my dog liked it better than the nail clippers. It was also easier to trim dark colored nails without cutting the nail's quick.

I clipped my golden retriever's nails for over 8 years. Progessively, he became more skittish of the clippers, even though I wasn't cutting into the quick. The Dremel Minimite has been an absolute dream. I won't recant how to get your dog used to a dremel (others have mentioned "doberdawn's" how-to site elsewhere--it's great). Just know that it is possible with older dogs. Teddy was used to it in just a couple of days, and now that I'm 4-5 weeks into using it weekly, he happily lays on the floor while I file away at his nails. I'm done with all four paws in about 5 minutes if I do it weekly. I find that I need to use the coarse sanding bands or else I feel like it would take a lot longer. The low speed works just fine. Teddy does not like the sound of the high speed!

The battery life is plenty for me to get all four nails done and then some. I love that it's cordless too. The instructions for changing the sanding band were pretty confusing (I had a co-worker familiar with tools show me), but that's a minor issue now that I've done it. I am **so** happy with this purchase and would highly recommend for dog owners everywhere!!

I recently bought a 4000-3/34 and I wanted to use the chuck I had been using on my old 395 instead of the collets. It didn't fit through the hole in the nosepiece of the 4000, so I took off the nosepiece and enlarged the hole. I wasn't satisfied with the 'quick-and-dirty' job I had done, so I contacted Dremel in Palm Desert in order to buy a replacement nosepiece. Without any questions they told me they'd send it right out to me at no charge as warranty service. When it arrive it was, unfortunately, the wrong part. Well, that's happened to me before, with other companies' tools, so even though they had been good enough to provide it for free (and the tool was working fine as it was) I decided to try again. And again, they told me they'd send a replacement at no cost with no questions or reluctance. Within a few days I had the right part, and I did a better job enlarging the hole (I subsequently discovered that the chuck they're selling now will fit the stock nosepiece).

The reason I had bought the 4000 is that my venerable 395 had broken down and I needed to finish a job without delay. When I opened up the 395 I discovered that there was a "flexible link" between the motor and the output shaft, and it had stripped. It was a short piece of flexible plastic tubing with internal splines to engage the metal shafts at both ends, and it was shredded inside. Initially I thought this was a regrettable design flaw, but I realized that it's just the weak link to prevent the user from damaging more expensive parts by challenging the tool too hard. Anyway, when I went to order the part, the woman who answered knew immediately what I was referring to and was able to complete my order efficiently. She even pointed out that, with the cost of the part being so small compared to the shipping (which was minor as well), I might consider ordering a second one. She encouraged me to leave the second one in the sealed package to prevent it from weakening from oxidation, and it would be ready to install if I should ever need it. Considering how old my 395 is, I'm not worried about that being any time soon. The parts arrived in a couple of days, and my 395 is back in action. And, considering how nice an upgrade the 4000 is, I don't mind having been forced to become the owner of two Dremels.

Dremel tools are well-designed and well-built, as long as the user works within the limits of their appropriate use (these are not industrial die-grinders). Craftsmanship is more a matter of patience and care than brute force. But any tool will require service at some point, if it's used a lot over the years, and that's where a manufacturer shows what they're really all about. With the kind of service I've received, I'd say it's no wonder that no other manufacturer has made much of a dent in the mini-rotary tool market. Dremel makes good products in the first place, and they back them up well. I'll never even consider buying a Dremel-like tool from anyone else!

The item is a low cost way to do small routing work. I obtained it to make marionette controls. But, be aware that the item is not usable as a stand-alone router. You must screw it to a wood surface. The attaching of the Dremel tool is not very quickly done, so it is not really practical to keep switching between using the Dremel in the router and as a hand held tool.

I set this up last night, mounted to a piece of wood and clamped to my workbench. Gave it a few hours this morning, making weaving shuttles of soft wood (pine). I agree with the poster who commented that the tool does not sit straight and centered in the table hole, and there is no way provided to adjust that. I might try a toothpick shim. Anyhoo, the table does the basic job for which I bought it, saving me some time on shaping the edges of my shuttles. I had been carving them by hand with a Flexknife.

I would not use this setup for anything large or heavy, or for any job requiring precision shaping. It's just too unstable.

Dremel doesn't help much making the decision to pay the price for this package or the one that's half the price. I have both. This is the best deal if you want to use the EZ-Lock system or need a new EZ-Lock arbor, which makes sense if you cut a lot of metal. or do a lot of sanding or polishing. The real parts count in this kit is sanding drums and disks and polishing wheels.

The case is OK, but it's plastic and won't survive a drop. There's a small amount of unused space in the case.

The Dremel 697-06 doesn't include any EZ Lock parts, but does include a good selection of metal cutoff wheels that mount on a standard arbor.

If you already have the EZ-Lock arbor, you may be better off buying only the parts you need.

If you don't use the EZ-Lock system, 697-06 is a much better value.

After doing a good amount of research, and watching nutnfancy on youtube review multi-tools (he gave this one high marks except for the size), I decided on the Supertool 300. The size wasn't a big concern because I figured I would use this mostly for hiking and camping. It has proven so useful that I wear it most of the time now, but do agree that the size is probably the only real downside. On the other hand, the size makes it much more comfortable than other multi-tools I have used. Besides that, I didn't like the sheath that it comes with because when on a belt, it sits high and can rub your side uncomfortably if you don't tuck in your shirts. That being said, every feature that I have used has worked great. The needle nose pliers are extremely handy to have.

I have found this product to be inferior in every way. Loud. Slow to fill tires. Awkward placement of the on/off toggle. Short power chord. I could forgive all of these short comings however, if it could do just one thing; fill more that 10 tires without blowing a non replaceable internal fuse. The first time it blew B&D sent me a new one without question. The second time it blew they said since they already sent me a new one the first time, I would have to take this one it to an authorized repair facility and I would need an original receipt to do so. I can't find it (of course) so now I have a big orange paper weight. Read the other reviews, this appears to be a common problem. If you do buy this make sure you keep your receipt in a safe place. You will need it often.

You have to literally cram the hose and wires into the storage compartment in order to get them inside, then you need to worry about pinching a line or cord when you close the cover. The hose attachments fit nice underneath but none of them fit air mattresses or the larger air holes. Also, the AC electrical cord is SO SHORT that it is almost impossible to use this product without an extension cord, which defeats the purpose of its compact design. Skip this item and spend a little more money on a better product. Sorry Black & Decker, you normally make good products but this one is lousy.

We have a family of four and a ton of house plants. We use this for all of our drinking water , making juice, coffee, tea and it also supplies the ice maker and water dispenser in our fridge. We use it to water the jungle of house plants and for everything we cook or boil. Our water is rather nasty and this filter takes the ugly taste and the chlorine taste and smell out. One filter lasts us about 10 months. After wasting way too much money on counter top and faucet units, this has been a lifesaver. It's not cheap but when I divide the cost by 10 months and considering all the use we get out of it, it's actually very inexpensive, about 27 cents per day. Bottled water can't touch that price. We are on our third one and I am very happy with the results.

I loved my old Dremel 395 which I bought about 25 years ago, and has been used will over 1000 hrs. Then the plastic coupling from the motor to collet broke. I needed to use it "now" rather than wait for a part to be shipped, so ran down to get a new model to last me another 25 years. I didn't care for the style and heft of this unit but reallized that it seemed to have a bit more torque than my old unit. It worked fine for several hours then the variable speed was unreliable. Soon after it was just chugging and getting hot. I abused the heck out of my old Dremel compared to this and it survived. I plan to get the old one repaired and unfortunately I didn't think I would need to save the receipt for the new POS.

I purchased this at the weekend to make a custom PC case but was worried because alot of other reviews said it died after 10 mins.

Mine works great.

I was cutting metal and wood with it for an afternoon with no major issues.

One thing (thats why it didnt get 5 stars) is that the motor's air vent is where your hand goes. this means when it gets hot it is uncomforable to hold.

Not a big issue, however.

I've owned a few of these tools, and they haven't disapointed me.

I love my Dremels; they can do just about any light-duty household or home improvement task you ask of them.

I got this one for Christmas in 2006, and have used it for the last two years. I've never had a problem with it, and it's performed flawlessly in everything I've asked it to do, and even some things it's not supposed to do!

This is the new version of the XPR and Multi-Pro model. Carried over from the other models are the ball-bearing supported motorshaft, adjustible speeds from 5,000-35,000 RPM's, replacable motor brushes, and the 1/8 inch quick-change collets. The XPR2's casing is redesigned with a larger cooling fan and inlets. This is because the motor has been replaced with a larger, more powerful one. The old Milti-Pro's and XPR's had 1-1.5 amp motors; the XPR2 has a 2-amp motor, which gives more torque, power, and increases the max RPM rating to 35,000. This is the same as the XPR and lower-end (AC, not battery) Dremels, but the 2-amp motor means it can do more (with the optional mini planer, circular saw, router, and flex shaft attachments), and do it more quickly and efficiently.

So far, I haven't had a major problem with this one. It's served me faithfully, and done what I needed it to without complaining. The only problem it's given me was using the mini-circular saw attachment to cut some countertop laminate. the saw bound, and it overheated to the point it released its magic blue smoke, and the motor burned up.

It was under warranty, so I sent it back to Dremel, and they sent me a new one, free!

I use these for everything from sanding, shaping, polishing, planing, routing, drilling, cleaning, cutting plastic, steel, aluminum, brass, copper, deburring, grinding, engraving, and sharpening. The endless number and variety of tools and accessories (drill press, diamond cutting bits, a router, mini-planer, flex-shaft compatibility, spiral saws, mini drill bits) means this tool can do pretty much everything you'd expect a small powertool to do, even some things a larger tool can do!

The manual specs a maximum attachment diameter of 1-1/4 inches, but I run a 2-inch polishing wheel on mine no problem!

If you are looking for an electric rotary tool, look no further. The new battery powered Dremels are nice and worlds better than the old ones, but if you are looking for power, go for the XPR2. This tool really can do almost everything. The only thing it can't do is drive nails!

Since I purchased it from a big-box store and lost the receipt, I lost the will to even mess with a getting it repaired. The brushes were clean and no burning motor smell was detected, so I'm guessing the fancy rpm dial pooped out. I've been through four Dremel tools in 10 years. So why do I keep coming back? It's all that's out there for a rotary tool. Sears makes one and some other companies, but their's are even less dependable. I've changed the brushes on some of them with replacements from Sears (never seen Dremel offer them). When it works, it's a great tool with a million and one uses. But they just never last long. The push-down catch to loosen attachments stopped worked. BTW, how does this company sleep at night charging those prices for attachments?

If you want to spend your hard earned money on a tool that will overheat and die on simple tasks, this is the tool for you. Unfortunately, mine died after the warranty date since I don't use it that often. I'd say mine had a grand total of 1 hour of time on it and it's now a paperweight.

I notice there is no mention of this model on Dremel's site and for good reason, they know it's a POS and want to sweep it under the rug.

Dremel has become synonymous with rotary tools much like Kleenex has become synonymous with facial tissues. Unfortunately for Dremel, their product line is getting worse. I also have the cordless 10.8V Li model and it too is severely lacking in both strength and longevity.

Time to look for a company that makes rotary tools for the long haul.

Dremel, you had your day and you blew it. You will eventually realize that word of mouth will show your substandard trinkets for what they are and will watch your market share fade into the wind.

I looked at replacing this POS with the 4000 series but realized I'd just be throwing good money after bad to a company that obviously cares more about its revenue stream than the quality of its tools and the satisfaction of its consumers.

I now have to research and find a rotary tool...one that hopefully accepts all of the Dremel attachments...and cut ties with Dremel. Should they eventually start producing/marketing quality tools, I may try them out once again. As of now? No dice. I work too hard for my money to piss it away on garbage that dies when doing simple tasks.

Burned up in five minutes of use. Improper usage? I've owned a dremel tool for 15 years and it always worked perfectly. I finally broke the old one and decided to "upgrade" to something better. What a mistake. I managed to cut about 6 inches of flooring before a truly impressive amount of smoke pored out.

Right out of the box the dremal itself would not work properly. The variable speed selector only allowed the drill to spin when it was set on high. When set on Med. or Slow it would stop turning. Unfortunately, I never got to use any of the tools that came with it, but if the way the drill worked and the other comments here is any indication ....they will probably suck too. So I called ALLTRADE for customer service (the number on the back of the manual)....and yet another nightmare began. On hold for 45min. only to talk to someone who was difficult at best (although at this point I was probably no picnic). I had to send it in to see if they could fix it or they would replace it...guess that's the least they could/should do. I had to send them $10.00 for the "repairs" of a brand new drill and an additional $8.50 to ship basically adding $18.50 to my purchase price.....ugh....don't buy any of the Kawasaki tools...Dremal, multi tools ...any of them. JUNK!

well this is a starters kit (you get what you pay for).... a couple of pieces broke off and wear and tear super quickly when i was dealing with metal, hard aluminum, and plastic.

not the rotary head. just the attachments break and wear off easily.

AND THERE ARE NO INSTRUCTIONS!!!!! on how to install the parts.

some pieces where either too small or just a little large, so I had to stick tissue paper in between to get some grip.

I would never buy this again. I could only recommend this for people who want to get a feeling of these kits. Other then that I would never recommend it to anyone else with experince

I bought this product for my fiancee, as he's going to be making little wooden boxes, and I stain and etch and sell them. I thought getting a good little starter set with a lot of pieces would be perfect for him. It arrived on time, I can't complain about that at all.

However, the first time he used it, the power button popped off, and then he couldn't get the little tool that he was using out of the actual machine. The case broke the second he opened it, and now it completely doesn't work. I'm very disappointed and upset because this was his anniversary gift and I thought it'd be a lot of fun for him because he's always been interested, but it turned out to be a waste of money.

Lucky for us, it comes with a warranty, and we'll be sending it in so that we can receive a new one. Which coincidentally will be going straight onto Amazon, since I'd never purchase from this seller or brand ever again.

I try to always do my research before purchasing online, and in this case, I thought I had.

The product description clearly states "Rotary tool includes 30 accessories to perform wide variety of tasks"

What I received was:

2 clamps,

4 sanding drums and the shaft to hold them,

20 cut-off discs and the shaft to hold them.

THAT'S IT!

Could someone please enlighten me as to "the wide variety of tasks" one could do with only sanding drums and cut-off discs?

As for the tool itself, I have no problem- I understand that it won't accept 3/32" Dremel bits.

My advice is to skip the disappointment of this package and buy just the tool alone, then the accessories you want, separately.

"Intitially a problem but Dremel Service was Excellent" 2010-05-21

I ordered this tool a couple months ago to replace a 10 yr old Dremel that gave up. Upon setting up and using the tool on my lawn mower blade the the new drill locked up within a minute. I heard a rattling sound inside and thought it was a chipped brush. I took out the brushes and one was chipped and broken.

I replaced the brushes and tried again. The motor gave a very bad sound and locked up again. I took the drill apart and found that one of the copper plates that the brushes touch had broken off.

I emailed Dremel support about the situation. I received a prompt email and was directed to send the unit to the Racine, WI service center with all of my supporting documents.

Within a week I received a new drill. I was very pleased to see such a fast turnaround and courteous service. I promptly set it up and went to town on the lawn mower blade and it didn't skip a beat. I did my neighbor's blade as well. I'm a fan of Dremel for over 10 years and wanted to pass the word about this company.

I could go on an on and on about how much I love my Lithium Dremel. It just sits in the closet all charged up for whenever I need it and does all sorts of stuff. I won't go into the stuff that others have probably already said about this device, but I would recommend that people (particularly apartment dwellers) purchase the Lithium powered one with an extra battery. Just keep it charged up and you will use it for random little things all the time. Oh and its really fun to use too...just wear your safety glasses!

First off, everyone will have their own experience with this device, so I wanted to make it perfectly clear that I am not agreeing or disagreeing with any of the other reviewers. In my experience with the Dremel 8000-03 10.8v model, I have had nothing but success with it. I use it for many various jobs around the house (i.e. trimming the dog's nails, polishing brass, drilling pilot holes, removing stubborn nails or screws, woodworking projects, etc). While I think this device is perfect for these types of jobs, I do not see it being durable enough or built for cutting massive sheets of drywall, sanding an entire table all at once, and so on. It has a great amount of speed and power and so many attachments you just don't even know what all this thing can do. I do agree with one thing another reviewer that said, which is that some of the attachments are a mystery. They are color-coded in the instruction manual as to their function (i.e. cutting, sanding, etc) but it does not tell you what specifically you would use some of them for or what materials they will are sufficient to be used on. I have found that going to purchase attachments and bits for it at the store or on each individual Amazon product page, you can learn a little bit more specifically what its intended use is. The battery life is average, lasting a combined run time of about one hour, which should be sufficient for most jobs. If it runs out, you can recharge it in about two hours based on my experience.
